Lambda Short Docs

In the world of film and media, storytelling is at the core of every memorable visual piece, be it a short film, a commercial, or even corporate video. At Lambda Films, we’ve built our reputation on crafting commercials and brand films that resonate. Yet, our recent foray into the realm of short documentaries has not only won us accolades but also reinforced our belief that the essence of all successful content lies in genuine storytelling.

Our first documentary project took us on a journey through vulnerable communities in St Vincent & the Grenadines, Montserrat, Ecuador, and Colombia. The Trilogy For Tribute documentaries were primarily focused on the science of volcanic activity, but we framed this through the lens of people’s stories of resilience, perseverance, and the fragile relationship with the volatile landscape. The resulting series shed light on these communities’ trials and triumphs, capturing the audience’s attention and winning the Dynamic Earth Award at the Earth Futures Film Festival in 2022.

2023 Film Projects

In 2023, Lambda Films undertook an increased slate of short documentaries. One of our latest endeavours, ‘In Our Lifetime’, delves into the intricate world of genome editing through the lens of a citizens jury. In the film, we followed the discussions and deliberations of 21 participants as they grappled with the question, Are there any circumstances under which a UK Government should consider changing the law to allow intentional genome editing of human embryos for serious genetic conditions?

With a strong focus on ethical and societal implications, this film earned its place in the official selection list at the International Social Change Film Festival 2023 and Newsfest True Stories Films Festival 2023.

Furthermore, our project ‘Abu Hilalain: Inside The Kingdom’s Crackdown on Captagon’, produced for Arab News, offers an incisive look at the challenges surrounding the illegal drug trade in Saudi Arabia. The documentary complements an investigative article on Arab News, emphasizing our commitment to provide a 360-degree view on critical issues. The documentary received a private premiere at BFI London, with a public screening at The Frontline Club shortly after.

Finally, while it doesn’t fall in the Short Doc category, work continued over 2023 on our feature-length documentary Fighting For My Family, the story of Pro Wrestler Zak Zodiac and his final push to achieve international stardom & success.

At its core, every story seeks to evoke emotion, inspire action, or provoke thought. Whether we’re capturing the nuanced struggles of communities living under volcanic threats or the ethical intricacies of genome editing, the foundation remains the same. Our ability to unearth and present authentic narratives ensures that our commercials and brand films are not just visually appealing but emotionally engaging.
