The Lotus Evija is the UK’s first electric Hypercar. Therefore, a car this special required an impactful promotional film to help tell the story of its inspiration and conception. To tell this story, Lambda Films produced The Creator.
Lotus cites the Evija as the most powerful production car on the planet. It has 4 electric motors, which push the car to a top speed of over 200 mph, and it is the lightest hypercar to enter production. However, in its lifetime only 130 models of the Evija will be produced. And, each Evija will set you back a cool £2m.
The etymology of Evija is the first (often connected to the biblical Eve), and living. So, to conceptualise this idea, we developed the character of The Creator; the being at the beginning of time. The Creator crafts the embryonic Evija from the raw materials of the world. Finally he imbues it with life from pure electricity.
The production of The Creator was a difficult one for our film team in Norwich. The tides and sunrises restricted us to two, 30-minute production windows. Thankfully, an agile production footprint allowed us to capture the scenes required.
The agile production was supported by Shoot Blue. Shoot Blue supplied our load-out with the ARRI Alexa Mini LF, Zeiss Supremes, Ronin 2, Skypanel S60 and a set of Astera Titan Tubes.
We had an easier time filming the Lotus Evija itself. The 2000 Horsepower beast was still a prototype and could only achieve top speeds of 5mph… Therefore, we filmed static shots of the Evija shots, enlivened through light sweeps and subtle camera moves.
