Morgan Sindall | Operation Spitfire

For over 6 years Morgan Sindall have trusted Video Production Company, Lambda Films to develop their corporate video content beyond the conservative norms of the construction industry. Operation Spitfire allowed us to push a creative concept even further.

Operation Spitfire was a logistically challenging project. We were first approached with the brief in 2019; Morgan Sindall were to build a modern extension to the Potteries & Heritage Museum in Stoke-on-Trent, especially for the display of an authentic Spitfire Fighter.

While the construction itself had merit, it was the story of the Spitfire that was the true hero. This was to be our narrative.

We accentuated the heritage theme of the project through a poetic narration, inspired by war poetry. The poem was written by Matt Abbott and voiced by Chris Lines. We also used archival newsreel of the Spitfire in action from the BBC. This was complimented by authentic stock footage of this specific Spitfire model at the Edinburgh Tattoo. This additional footage allowed us to chart the real history of the Spitfire.

We were aware that the restoration of the Spitfire was going to be a year-long project. Therefore this would be a long-term production with certain challenges. However, the global pandemic stretched the project a further two years before it was complete. Over this time period, our Norwich video production team visited the volunteer team at the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society, and filmed small moments in the restoration of the Spitfire.

Finally, we filmed the finished extension, focusing on key architectural details. We bought the story to a close with our actor, Maddy; representing a new generation of curious minds.
