A Guide To AI Video Production (2026)
AI & Video Production updated on 12/05/2026
This post was first written back in 2023 when Artificial Intelligence was the hot ‘new’ trend. At the time, ChatGPT and Midjourney made us feel like the AI of our favourite science-fiction movies had arrived.
However, while the internet lost its collective mind over the potential of AI, I was reminded of a project from 2019; Lexus, Driven By Intuition. This car advert was an experiment in AI script-writing. Partnering with IBM to use its Watson technology, Lexus and The&Partnership input 15 years’ of Cannes Lion award-winning ads and 10 years of the best ‘luxury’ ads, as well as additional data relating to ‘intuition’ and how people make decisions. Based on this data, Driven By Intuition was written.
The salient point of this experiment was that while the AI crafted a perfectly passable automotive advert; it left viewers slightly confused, and more importantly, it lacked originality. Driven By Intuition feels like a familiar car advert because it is just that… familiar. It underpinned the fundamental flaw in this new breed of ‘creative’ generative AI.
What is the future of AI Video Production in 2026?
Fast-forward to today, 7 years later; the world of AI video production is very different. Will Smith Eating Spaghetti is a distant nightmare, the curse of the 6-fingers is no longer a thing; we actually have realistic, commercial-level, prompt-driven video production.
Full AI commercials have appeared on TV, even taking the biggest of primetime slots at the Super Bowl. Whatever your stance and politics on the technology, it has arrived and has forked the video production process, perhaps forever.
AI Production has become a legitimate weapon in the arsenal of many modern production companies. The video marketing statistics speak for themselves too. In their end-of-year report, HeyGen found that 77.9% of marketers are already creating AI videos and nearly 60% increasing investment next year. It remains a hot topic, and one of the dominant video trends in our 2026 rundown.
For over 15 years, Lambda Films has been a traditional video production company – and that isn’t changing. But this industry never stands still. AI is simply the latest shift, and we’ve embraced it: experimenting, learning, failing, succeeding, and evolving along the way. We’ve now delivered a range of full, AI video production projects for our clients, consulted for agencies and given lectures at prominent Universities.
So, in this post we’ll be collating our knowledge and experience; dissecting the future of AI video production services and examining & ranking the best AI tools for video production.

AI VIDEO PRODUCTION SERVICES
While high-quality AI video production requires many of the same skills as in traditional production, it’s very different workflow. In this section, we break the full production process down, exploring the different services required at each stage and the best AI video production tools with which to deliver them.
PRE-PRODUCTION
BEST AI TOOLS FOR IDEATION & SCRIPT-WRITING
AI-powered Large Language Models (LLMs) can change the way creatives approach ideation and scriptwriting. These AI tools act as brainstorming partners, story architects, and dialogue refiners, helping to shape rough ideas into structured narratives with speed and efficiency. Their power lies in being able to respond to human questions and suggestions in a conversational way that makes shaping creative ideas fast and efficient.
GOLD

GEMINI is Google’s flagship LLM that benefits from up to date information, and provides more polished creative results for tasks such as scriptwriting and ideation.
SILVER

CHATGPT is the OG of LLMs. Versatile, great for creative writing and structured responses. However, it can generate generic responses without deeper nuance.
BRONZE

CLAUDE is positioned as the LLM for creativity & coding, making it useful for scripts & ideation. However, the quality of the output still falls behind our favourite two.
WORTHY MENTION

DEEPSEEK excels at structured writing, technical breakdowns, and analytical storytelling. However, its responses can sometimes feel too methodical.
BEST FOR RESEARCH

PERPLEXITY gets a special mention for performance in research and attribution. Important when working on serious, corporate content.
BEST AI IMAGE GENERATORS FOR CONCEPT ART & STORYBOARDING
Text-to-image AI generators are transforming concept art and storyboarding, allowing filmmakers and creatives to visualise ideas instantly, without needing traditional illustration skills. These tools can generate everything from cinematic mood boards to detailed shot compositions, making pitching and pre-production faster, more effective and visually compelling.
GOLD

CHATGPT IMAGES 2.0 is simply the best image generator currently available, producing highly realistic images. However, where it truly excels is prompt accuracy and controlled composition.
SILVER

NANO BANANA 2 is an extremely powerful image generator, just narrowly behind ChatGPT for prompt adherence. However, reference images help produce more accurate generations.
BRONZE

MIDJOURNEY is where it all started. It still produces stunning, cinematic visuals. However, the platform can often prioritise style over accuracy.
WORTHY MENTION

ADOBE FIREFLY is specifically designed for commercially safe, brand-friendly visuals trained on their own material. However, this does make it more creatively constrained and less experimental.
WORTH EXPLORING

STABLE DIFFUSION offers a lot of customisation, allowing users to fine-tune models for unique visuals. However, to do so requires technical knowledge and therefore is less user-friendly.
PRODUCTION
BEST AI VIDEO GENERATORS
AI-powered text-to-video and image-to-video generators are revolutionising production by enabling creators to generate cinematic shots, dynamic sequences, and motion-enhanced concepts without traditional filming or animation workflows. These AI video generators can transform static images into animated sequences or create entirely AI-driven videos from text prompts, making pre-visualisation, marketing content, and experimental filmmaking faster and more accessible than ever.
GOLD

SEEDANCE feels like Generative AI at its peak, with unparalleled prompt accuracy, visual fidelity and realism. Accepts a combination of text, image, audio & video references.

VEO 3 from Google was the turning point in delivering fully-realistic and commercial-level video. It’s now slightly lagging behind but expect huge leaps forward in the future.
WORTH EXPLORING

HAPPY HORSE is a newcomer to the AI video race, it lags behind our other three options but remains on course to become a quality, established model.
BEST AI VIDEO GENERATORS FOR SOCIAL CONTENT
On the other end of the production spectrum, AI video generators are transforming the process for fast-turnaround, high-volume social content. These tools make it possible to rapidly create platform-ready content for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube without the need for traditional editing or production workflows. Ideal for reactive marketing, campaign amplification, and always-on social strategies, AI video generators help teams scale content output while maintaining speed, creativity, and visual impact.
GOLD

VEED offers a collection of easy-to-use AI tools for fast content creation. It’s designed for creators and teams who need fast, practical video content without over-stylisation.
SILVER

VADOO AI is a niche AI video generator that creates short videos from text, specifically tailored for social media. It’s technically an aggregator, using the different AI engines listed above.
BEST TOOLS FOR AI AVATARS
AI avatars and digital twins are transforming video production by creating lifelike, AI-driven presenters that can deliver scripted content without the need for live actors or studio shoots. These tools use advanced AI to generate realistic virtual presenters, making corporate communications, training videos, and marketing content scalable, cost-effective, and highly customisable.

BEST AI VOICE GENERATORS
Thankfully, we are way beyond generating the robotic tones of Alexa & Siri. There are a range of AI voice generators packed with features capable of producing like life narration, translation and localisation – all from a users script. AI voices can be instrumental in the early production process, providing a means for placeholder voiceovers to support accurate editing of drafts, and animatics for creative pitches.
GOLD

ELEVENLABS was built from the ground up to service professional AI voiceover, and it delivers. Complete with multi-language support, dubbing and custom voice cloning.
SILVER

RESPEECHER is one of the only real alternatives to Elevenlabs in terms of quality, but aimed at commercial and industry-level productions making it less accessible and user-friendly.
POST-PRODUCTION
BEST AI TOOLS FOR EDITING & POST
In my opinion, there isn’t a tool robust enough to be called a professional AI video editor. Sure, there are a plethora of online tools that can clip up long-form videos for social distribution, but they generally lack finesse and fine control. As a commercial-level production company, we’re interested in seeing where AI production tools operate at the professional level.
EDITING

ADOBE FIREFLY is integrated within Premiere Pro and capable of delivering generated video. This is a huge step in creating a seamless, AI-powered post-production workflow. For more information, read our article about Firefly & AI Post Production.
COLOUR GRADING

COLORLAB AI uses machine learning algorithms to analyse raw footage and automatically adjust colour grading, making it faster and easier to achieve a desired look.
AI LOCALISATION, LIP-SYNCHING & DUBBING
If there is an area that AI has genuinely assisted in the post-production process, it is in localisation, lip-synching and dubbing. That is, taking a clip of a presenter or on-screen dialogue, and automatically translating the spoken word, cloning and generating the replacement voice and then rendering the video to create seamless visual lip-synching. It’s a big ask, but there are plenty of tools that excel at this process. This has greatly opened up video content to wider audiences with just the click of a button or two.
GOLD

HEYGEN builds on its avatar capabilities with 175+ languages available for translating & dubbing your content with almost flawless lip-syncing.
SILVER

SYNTHESIA is a close second, offering 120 languages for its translation, dubbing and lip-syncing services.
OF INTEREST

EMO is a tool that is just so damn cool. EMO can take a still image of a person and generate realistic human emotion & movement, coupled with dubbing and lip-syncing. Where it differs however, is that EMO has a strength in generating humanism in response to song.
OF INTEREST

VASA-1 from Microsoft is a powerful tool for creating lifelike avatars and lip-synced dubbing. However, the flip-side is the very real mis-use of this technology to create believable deepfakes and harmful content. Microsoft themselves stipulate that VASA-1 won’t be openly available until this technology will be used responsibly. So, never then?
BEST AI MUSIC GENERATORS
Just like video generation, it feels like a crazy world in which full commercial-level music and songs can be generated from a simple prompt. Yet, here we are. Whether you’re looking for a specific niche genre, or you want bespoke lyrics that match your production, AI music generators have the power to deliver.
GOLD

SUNO was the first platform that really delivered flawless, commercial-level music and has led the way ever since. Suno offers a conversational approach to generating a song, or reference features for more control.
SILVER

UDIO is a solid alternative to SUNO with equally realistic music generation and advanced editing features. Udio cultivates a community within its platform, encouraging a sharing of tracks and following favourite creators.
BRONZE

Elevenlabs is back, and cornering the AI audio market with its AI music generator. Elevenlabs provides a way for creators to earn from their generations, but more importantly, tracks are licensed for commercial use.
AI SFX GENERATORS
Sound design and sound effects (SFX) have also been given the AI treatment. There are a variety of approaches to AI SFX – from prompt-driven sounds to the soundtracking of entire finished productions.
GOLD

Adobe Firefly AI operates inside Premiere Pro, and allows instant generation of quality SFX. Use text prompts, reference audio or even act it our via your mic to get the perfect audio addition to your work.
SILVER

Kling is one of the best all-round production platforms, offering cutting-edge image and video generation. Therefore, its SFX feature is equally strong. Create SFX from text prompts or your own reference videos.
BRONZE

Elevenlabs complements its audio offering with its own text-to-SFX feature. The results are impressive, but it loses marks for limiting input & references to text only.
AI VFX GENERATORS
Visual effects (VFX) are another area where generative AI has really flourished. Given the abstract nature of VFX, generally speaking, AI is able to produce highly realistic elemental visuals, that match those of the biggest Hollywood films. While many AI video generators can create standalone VFX shots, we are exploring the platforms that are able to complement and develop existing commercial-level footage with integrated VFX.
GOLD

SEEDANCE entered the AI race with some impressive VFX work, and along with Kling, offers up the most powerful, multi-modal approach to integrating commercial-level VFX.
SILVER

Kling continues to land in the top spot for various aspects of AI production. The quality of its VFX integration is no different, seamlessly blending existing footage or creating VFX from scratch.
BRONZE

Runway Aleph is the engine behind Runways video generation and editing feature. On its own, it boasts and impressive track record of creating or integrating VFX.
AI QUALITY ENHANCEMENT TOOLS
These tools may soon be obsolete. Initially, AI generators had a limit to the size and resolution of their generated content. But these tools have been instrumental in taking AI generated material in HD, and upscaling to 2K, 4K and above. These tools have allowed the generated material to be used in professional level video, and industry-level printing.
SILVER

Magnific started as a standalone tool, but has now merged with Freepik to become a powerful AI aggregator. The upscaling features remain, and so does the quality level.
Issues surrounding AI in video production
Ethical Concerns
AI can create realistic images and videos, including deepfakes, which pose ethical challenges. These deepfakes can be used for misinformation, propaganda, or impersonating individuals, raising concerns about consent and the potential for misuse.
Quality and Creativity Limitations
While AI can efficiently produce content, there are concerns about its ability to match the creative nuances and quality that experienced human professionals bring. AI-generated videos might lack the emotional depth, artistic flair, and storytelling prowess that come from human creativity.
Storyboard Creation
Storyboarding is a crucial step where the visual narrative of a video is sketched out, scene by scene. It requires a deep understanding of the narrative, artistic vision, and the emotional flow of the story. AI currently struggles with these creative and interpretive aspects. It may assist in generating basic layouts or suggesting compositions based on existing templates, but it lacks the nuanced understanding of storytelling and visual symbolism that a human artist brings to a storyboard.
Scriptwriting with Emotional Depth
AI can generate scripts based on predefined parameters and data inputs, but it often struggles to infuse scripts with nuanced emotional depth and character development. Human scriptwriters draw from personal experiences, cultural nuances, and a deep understanding of human emotions, which are areas where AI lacks proficiency. AI-generated scripts may end up being formulaic or lacking in the subtleties that make stories compelling and relatable.
Understanding Symbolism and Thematic Depth
In video production, symbolism and thematic elements are often used to add depth and layers of meaning to the narrative. AI has difficulty understanding and implementing these subtle and abstract concepts. While it can identify and replicate patterns, the ability to creatively use symbolism and weave complex themes into a narrative is a distinctly human skill that AI has yet to master.
Bias and Representation
AI systems can inadvertently perpetuate biases present in their training data. In video production, this could lead to the creation of content that lacks diversity or reinforces stereotypes, impacting representation and fairness.
Will AI replace video production?
There is no doubt that AI is transforming the world of video production in a variety of ways, from streamlining the pre-production process to optimising production and enhancing post-production. While there are still many areas where human creativity and expertise are indispensable, the increasing use of AI is making video production faster, more efficient, and more engaging than ever before.
As the technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more exciting applications of AI in video production in the future. As for the answer to the big question…? It’s true to say that we are now seeing a divergence in video production. AI video has been legitimately been used in advertising and marketing, with mixed results. Like with any creative endeavour (and yes, AI production remains a creative process) there are bad examples, and brilliant examples of work.
While creatives may be quick to dismiss AI production as ‘slop’ there is some evidence that viewers and audiences don’t agree. Testing by System1 found that audiences actually enjoyed AI content, and when revealed as AI, had no effect on their perception. In 2025, Coca Cola legitimised AI production with their AI TV ad, while the coveted ad slots of Super Bowl 2026 gave audiences a number of fully-AI generated ads.
So, for the moment, AI video production is a reality. For those who choose to walk that path, then platforms such as Seedance, Kling & Runway will provide a a huge resource for filmmakers across. If this is where the industry is headed, then knowledge and understanding of these platforms will become a necessary to professional video production services offered by agencies.
